No Eggs, No Dairy, No Gluten, No Nuts!

Some of you may or may not have heard any of the words above. You may have been told by a doctor, naturopath, or other health professional that you need to avoid any or even several of the items above.

It is becoming more commonplace for people to have to avoid certain foods as technology catches up with us and health professionals are better able to determine the cause of many people's issues with food. I can speak from experience, a child with food intolerances has led me to scour many articles and books looking for answers, when no-one has been able to determine the problem.

We luckily have found a solution to our problem and I will blog about that in more detail next time.

Today I wanted to be able to share with you some more information about our new 'Allergy-friendly Cookbook' by Alice Sherwood. We recently started stocking this book and it is literally walking out the door.

Alice Sherwood was thrown into the bewildering world of food allergies when her two-year-old son was diagnosed with nut and egg allergies. Frustrated with the food on offer, she set about devising her own delicious recipes.

In her book she has over 100 of her family favourites from crusty, tasty bread and creamy ice cream to melt-in-the-mouth sponge cakes - plus dazzling dinner party ideas.

There are also helpful chapters to describe food allergies in more detail, staying positive, 'Your allergic child', eating out, special occasions, travelling, shopping, and much more.

This book is virtually 4 cookbooks in one - each recipe can be made without one or more of the "big four" allergens - those being EGGS, DAIRY, NUTS and GLUTEN.

With the Allergy-friendly Cookbook, you don't need to feel you are on a restricted diet. Every recipe has a version that is tailor made for you.

For Example:

CHICKEN PIE - A classic dish - ideal for family and guests. The vegetables are sauteed first for extra flavour and the chicken is lightly poached in stock and wine. Cornflour is used to make the sauce and the whole lot is combined under a crisp, glazed pastry crust. Even the egg-free version has it's own glaze, for a pie that looks as good as it tastes.

The original Chicken Pie recipe is noted as 'nut free', then there is also the 'dairy free version', the 'egg free version' and finally the 'gluten free version'. So whichever allergen you need to avoid you can!

Alice Sherwood has taken a more positive approach to having to cook several meals to accommodate for family members who may have a restricted diet. Instead she has found ways to sidestep the restrictions in her own favourite dishes. She has also used this method whist exploring the cuisine of other cultures.

Alice has a positive attitude towards the challenges faced by a family with a food allergies, and this book offers an insight that could only be offered by someone with first-hand experience.

Some of her fantastic recipes include:

  • Honey granola
  • Blueberry muffins,
  • Tortillas,
  • Chicken fajitas,
  • Bacon & onion quiche,
  • Tabbouleh,
  • Tandoori fish
  • Osso bucco
  • Meatloaf
  • Classic shepherd's pie
  • Crepes
  • Focaccia
  • Chocolate crinkle cookies
  • Carrot Cake
  • Chocolate truffles
  • and another 85 recipes!!
So if that hasn't made you hungry enough, I'm now off to start work on tomorrow nights dinner - Leek & butternut pumpkin soup, French-style bread, and finally Dark Chocolate Torte.......Yum!

Make sure you order your own copy today - and then don't forget to write and tell me your favourite recipes!

Asthma Friendly - Allergy Tested

Did you know that over $10 billion is spent worldwide annually on products targeted at the asthma and allergy market!

Concerned consumers are rarely provided with enough proof that the manufacture of the products are valid.

Sometimes this lack of information often prevents the consumer from making an informed decision regarding the real features and benefits of a product.

Due to the gap in information, the asthma and allergy friendlyTM Certification Program developed and launched in the United Staes by 'Allergy Standards Limited' in partnership with the 'Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America' was developed.

When you see the distinctive trademark on a product you know that it has been independently tested in accredited laboratories and proven to be more suitable for adults and children with asthma and related allergic sensitivities.

Limelizard is proud to carry a range of soft toys that has the accreditation making it a safe gift choice for newborn babies and baby showers.

Especially popular is the Developmental Giraffe, with his 'teething friendly' feet, rattle rings around his neck, and even a small child-safe mirror for baby to see their face!

New to Limelizard is 'Buttercup'. She is the latest dolly and is a gorgeous friend to the ever popular 'Flower Dolly'.

Floppy Froggy is also new and proving very popular - especially as he has generic colouring so that makes him perfect for baby boy or girl!

If you have any questions regarding our Asthma Friendly Range make sure you contact us!

Limelizard proudly presents the latest
Dr. Wayne Dyer book and CD - Excuses Begone! Available now $26.95 for the book, or $49.95 for the 8 CD set.

There is also a Children's version called 'No Excuses' that will be available soon from Limelizard!

Here is some more detailed information:

"In his latest book Dr. Wayne W. Dyer reveals how to change the self-defeating thinking patterns that have prevented you from living at the highest levels of success, happiness, and health. Even though you may know what to think, actually changing those thinking habits that have been with you since childhood might be somewhat challenging.

In this groundbreaking work, Wayne presents a compendium of conscious and subconscious crutches employed by virtually everyone, along with a way to cast them aside once and for all. You'll learn to apply specific questions to any excuse, and then proceed through the steps of a new paradigm. The old habituated ways of thinking will melt away as you experience the absurdity of hanging on to them.

You'll ultimately realise that there are no excuses worth defending, ever, even if they've always been part of your life - and the joy of releasing them will permeate you to your very core. When you eliminate the need to explain your shortcomings or failures, you'll awaken to the life of your dreams...."

Positivity - definitely needed and working!

Hello Limelizard Customers,

It has been a little while since the last blog. During that time I had need to undergo a total thyroidectomy - last Thursday. Unfortunately, due to complications I ended up in ICU for 5 days, and am finally back at home. Even though very scary I had the most amazing time and experience in hospital.

We have the most amazing doctors and nurses in this country. They are absolutely dedicated above and beyond their calling. You hear a lot in the news about the state of hospitals, staffing of hospitals etc, and whilst I know that they are doing it tough - not once did I feel I wasn't getting appropriate care. Goodness, I even loved the mushy food they were feeding me!

That said, I don't think I would have had the best frame of mind had it not been for the most amazing DVD I watched. I was lucky enough to have my husband bring in a portable DVD player and the movie 'Ambition to Meaning' by Dr. Wayne Dyer.

After a particularly harrowing night of wondering if I was about to stop breathing, I watched the movie. During and straight after I had a major turn around of positivity and knew that what was happening was meant to be, and with a little more positivity I would understand why and get myself through it.

This movie has narrative from Dr Dyer, but also follows stories that no matter who you are, and what you do, you can relate to. The stories help demonstrate exactly the message Dr Dyer is trying to get across. It has an amazing cast, including Dr Dyer himself, and Porta De Rossi, Shannon Sturges, and others.

If you, a relative, friend etc need a little spiritual inspiration, I can't recommend this highly enough. I watched it for a second time during my stay just for a 'top-up' and firmly believe that I experienced a 'shift' that Dr Dyer talks about during my hospitalisation, when suddenly one of my complications was healed.

I still have a little more healing to go, but with the power of postive thinking I'm sure it won't be long - and if I don't heal fully I know that this was meant to be the outcome.

If you are interested in 'Ambition to Meaning' visit the DVD section of our website.

With positive thoughts and energy....

There's nothing like a Mama hug!

Thanks to everyone who has contacted us about our new website!!! We are so happy with it and the response has been fantastic! As you may have noticed we have now been able to include the Poetic/Affirmation jewellery on the website. This has been fantastic and already has a great following.

I thought I would share a funny story with you. A couple of weeks ago I had to do some sh
opping and was in a lift in a large shopping centre. My mobile phone rang and whilst talking on it I noticed a lady staring at my chest for longer than is polite! I was concerned that she had asked me a question whilst I was on my phone and interrupted my phone conversation to ask her if everything was alright.

She advised that she was just reading and would I mind letting her have a closer look!

I had completely forgotten that I was wearing one of my poetic pendants and she was reading the inscription on it! Needless to say it was "There's nothing like a Mama Hug". She asked for details, and is now proudly wearing her own pendant for others to read!

I have been finding this penda
nt in particular very special with my daughters. My 7 year old in particular loves sitting on my knee, reading the pendant, and then giving me the most gorgeous hug.

You can view this pendant and lots of other poetic/affirmation jewellery on our website www.limelizard.com.au.

With positive thoughts and energy
